Bio-Blitz is held the first Saturday in October.
While wildlife surveys are conducted all year at Jones Park, Bio-Blitz offers the public an opportunity to participate in “real citizen science” biology surveys. Participating team members actively engage in recording and surveying amphibians and reptiles, birds, and invertebrates (with an emphasis on pollinators).
The Bio-Blitz teams’ findings are added to, and corrolated with, Jesse H. Jones Park & Nature Center’s ongoing lists of known animal species that inhabit the park. The data is then shared with researchers at Cornell University’s Lab of Ornithology, the North American Field Herping Association’s Herpetological Educational and Research Project (HERP), and the University of Georgia’s Discover Life project.
